Our Creative Learning Programme

Creative Learning sits at the heart of Polka. We create bold, dynamic experiences that open the arts to every child and family through an accessible, far-reaching programme.

All year round, we deliver inspiring creative opportunities for everyone, from babies to teenagers. Our creative learning work and productions are closely connected, each shaping and enriching the other.

Across schools, communities and at Polka, we reach over 28,000 participants annually, with around 65% accessing our work for free. Our subsidised programmes break down barriers and ensure every child can take part. Highlights include Curtain Up!, providing 9,000 free tickets each year to schools facing access challenges, and Polka Invites, a community membership scheme supporting families new to Polka who may face financial barriers or social isolation. Referred through trusted community partners, members receive free tickets to shows and workshops, plus invitations to special events.

Targeted Programmes

Our targeted programmes support those who need it most. Freefalling is a free, year-round drama programme for children aged 9 – 16, supporting those facing challenges at home, school or with mental health. Write Here Write Now builds confidence and creativity in Year 3 pupils who need support to reach their writing potential. Talking Tales helps teachers and school leaders develop oracy across KS1 and KS2 through CPD, workshops, resources and mentoring, embedding confident communication in the classroom.

Arts Access

Our Clore Learning Studio is home to an immersive, multi-sensory learning environment where we deliver Arts Access workshops. With an interactive floor and floor-to-ceiling projections, children can step into a world of sound, music and dynamic visuals. This dedicated sensory space is designed to support Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent children and young people, offering an inclusive way to explore creativity.

Take Part

Alongside this, we run an extensive Take Part programme of weekly classes, drop-in sessions and holiday courses, plus a wide range of School and Community Opportunities as well as Teacher CPD programmes. We also offer an annual Work Experience programme, giving young people insight into the theatre industry and supporting the next generation of creative talent, plus a wide range of School Workshops.

Together, this work reflects our commitment to ensuring every child and young person can experience, create and belong in the arts

Through the power of play, our most natural tool for learning and discovery, we invite children and families to explore and express themselves freely. Whether taking their first imaginative steps or developing their creativity further, we provide pathways that build confidence, connection and curiosity, opening doors to a lifelong relationship with theatre and the creative arts.
