Daryl Beeton appointed as Associate Artist
October 2, 2018
We are thrilled to announce that Daryl Beeton will be joining Polka as Associate Artist.
Over the next two years Daryl will be supported to create a new piece of inclusive theatre for our Adventure Theatre. He will also provide support to our PolkaLAB programme, helping us to engage and mentor disabled artists and companies.
Daryl was last seen at Polka in his hugely successful show A Square World in 2017, which has toured the UK and overseas. He has worked extensively within the Theatre, Disability and Young People’s Arts sector for the last 20 years. He is a recognised cultural leader in youth arts participation as well as a high-profile advocate for disabled artists.
In 2010 Daryl was selected as one of 15 Cultural Leaders creating and producing work in the outdoor arts sector by the Independent Streets Arts Network (ISAN) and in 2013 he was recognised with an Action for Children’s Arts Members Award for his commitment to enriching children’s lives through the arts.
“The core of all of my work has been a belief that arts can enrich our lives and those of the communities we inhabit...I’m really looking forward to working with Polka over the next few years and supporting their approach to creating a truly inclusive future for both audiences and artists at a very exciting time in Polka’s life.”
Artistic Director Pete Glanville says, “Daryl is an experienced and innovative artist , who is highly respected across the TYA sector. Polka are privileged to welcome him as our Associate Artist, and look forward to supporting him to explore and develop new forms of inclusive theatre at our venue”.
