In Memory of Dame Patricia Routledge
7th October 2025The team at Polka Theatre are so very sad to hear the recent news that Dame Patricia Routledge has left the stage.
She was a true titan of acting as well as a great supporter of artists and helping young people to discover the arts. Through The Patricia Routledge Foundation she supported our access and free ticket scheme over many years, as well as contributing to our major capital redevelopment in 2019-21.
The Foundation’s recent support has ensured we could provide accessible theatre and creative experiences for children with additional needs and disabilities. This has made a real impact for them; reducing isolation, inspiring creativity, supporting their development, broadening horizons and boosting wellbeing.
Receiving the foundation’s committed support towards this project over several years has been key, and has supported Polka to expand our reach, with our adapted performances reaching nearly 7,000 audience members last year, compared to just under 3,000 in the previous year.
We offer our deepest condolences to her family and friends. Through her generous support her legacy will continue to live on.
