Our Polka show-related workshops explore the themes and production elements from our Polka Productions. Post-Show workshops can be held in the afternoons at Polka after your children have watched a show, or they can be held at your school either before or after coming to the theatre.
We open with RED, inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, a new production created for both Deaf and Hearing audiences which takes places across several different spaces on our ground floor. One of the key themes from the production is around recycling and looking at ways in which we can protect our environment. The show related workshops include creating, then bringing to life, some gruesome swamp creature puppets made from rubbish and junk, just like the ones we meet in RED
Our winter programme includes Cinderella: The AWESOME Truth in our refurbished Main House. This is a magical retelling of the much-loved classic, with a Prince who isn’t so charming and a Fairy Godmother who’s not what she seems. The production focuses on body positivity which is explored further in the show related workshops. We look at how society views the body and we explore solutions in which to build confidence, self-esteem and acceptance of our own bodies. Bodies are AWESOME!
The Night Before Christmas, inspired by the much-loved poem ‘Twas the night before Christmas’, tells the story of a magical and extraordinary adventure on Christmas Eve that involves a young girl and… an unexpected visitor. Our show related workshops explore family relationships, feelings and emotions; recognising what others might be feeling and understanding that not everyone feels the same way. Our on-site workshops will be held in our Sensory Space, for children to explore this winter storytelling adventure in a multi-sensory environment.
