Q&A with writer of Dweeb-A-Mania, Sarah Middleton

29th August 2025

We caught up with Sarah Middleton, writer of our new show and winner of the Polka Playwriting Award to chat all about Dweeb-A-Mania!

What inspired you to write Dweeb-A-Mania?

I wanted to make a show specifically for children aged 8-13 – something that would empower and uplift audiences whilst giving them a memorable, surprising and entertaining theatre experience, so a story about wrestlers felt like the right choice! I wanted to make something about the transition from Year 6 to Year 7, the pressure to be mainstream when you’re actually nerdy, and something that would uplift and celebrate kids who are a bit different.

What are you most looking forward to?
The wrestling. I’ve loved writing the script but there’s only so much you can write on the page to describe a wresting match – it’s really going to come alive in rehearsals and performance. I can’t wait to witness an audience experiencing the wrestling up close.

What can audiences expect from the show?
They can expect to be wowed by live wrestling, to laugh, to be moved, and to consider the many ways in which being a dweeb is actually very cool.

Do you have a favourite wrestling move?
It’s got to be the Atomic Drop!

What would your wrestling name be?
The Plot Twister.

Lastly, sum up the show in three words!
Punchy, powerful, dweebilicious!

Dweeb-A-Mania is on in our Adventure Theatre from Saturday 4 October – Sunday 9 November.
Tickets start from £11*
Recommended for ages 8-13
