Volunteer Role Description WORD

“I’ve really enjoyed volunteering at Polka; it’s been great developing my skills in such a positive environment. It’s a really good experience, and in my time here I’ve been able to get really involved with everything… I declare that there is no enjoyment like selling so many ice-creams that the manager has to go and get extra from the freezer” – George

“I volunteered at Polka because as a recently retired teacher, I had some time on my hands and wanted to help out in the local community. I am very much aware of how much children benefit from the magic of live performance, and I am particularly impressed with how the Polka reach out to children who may normally be unable to access live theatre. It has been lovely to experience the joy these children get from visiting Polka.” – Sue

“Volunteering at Polka has truly been one of the best decisions I have made. Through this incredible opportunity I was able to learn so much about what it takes to put on a production at a professional theatre – it has been invaluable work experience. The people I have worked with have been absolutely wonderful as well, it is such a happy and supportive environment where I was able to connect with like-minded people, all the while helping my local community and seeing children experience the magic of theatre for the first time. My time at the Polka has been so special, really enabling me to feel like a valued part of the team and setting me up with skills I will use throughout both my personal and professional life.” – Rachel

“I’ve always loved theatre and I’ve really enjoyed meeting new people at the Polka. Everyone is very friendly. It’s really lovely to see the children engaging with the shows and getting excited about theatre.” – Ingrid

“Recently retired and new to volunteering, Polka is a great place to be. The work is fun and varied – one day you could be running the shop, and another, welcoming children with their families and teachers or even, overseeing audiences into the performance and workshop spaces. It’s where creativity and inspiration collide to make theatrical magic and whatever your age, you are never too old to have some magic in your life!” – Carole

“It’s been a pleasure to join the team at Polka as a Volunteer, everyone’s been very welcoming and friendly, making the shifts enjoyable. It’s very rewarding seeing children engage and enjoy watching Theatre, sometimes for their very first time! Experience here has helped me get my first job in Theatre too, so I’d highly recommend volunteering at Polka. You’ve got nothing to lose!” – Lizzie
