After school fun at Polka!
Our weekly drama clubs for ages 3-14 have been hard at work this semester! Here’s a small taste of what they’ve been up to…
Develop communication and social skills for ages 3-5 in weekly sessions
During the spring term, we have been exploring an original fairy tale each week using imaginative play, movement and storytelling. Through using imaginative play and stories the groups created their very own fairy tale to explore with their families and friends in their last session. Next term they will be looking at a new prop each week and will create their own journey using that particular prop!
Polka’s weekly drama groups for ages 5-9
During the spring term, they have been working on Roald Dahl exploring the story of The Enormous Crocodile and Fantastic Mr Fox. They devised their own scenes as a group through movement, improvisation exercises and characterisation during each session, to create their own piece to show to their families and friends at the end of term. Next term they will have a similar structure to their sessions, working on more drama techniques to devise their very own original story or adventure!
Get expert drama training and develop new performance skills for ages 9-14
We have been mainly working on improvisation and devising this semester with the Youth Theatre, where the group have been using their own ideas to create an original piece of theatre. In each session they explore drama techniques and learn performance skills used by professional actors. They will be exploring more of these techniques next term with the opportunity of devising a piece based on an original play written for young children, where they’ll work as an ensemble and explore physicality which will lend very well to the specific themes within the piece. The most exciting part of it all is that they will then be able to perform this on the main stage to their families and friends at the end of the term! Here’s what parents had to say;
“My child has thoroughly enjoyed the workshops. She looks forward to it and is very enthusiastic to attend.”
“My son really loves coming to Polka and finds much interest and benefit in the creative classes.”
