Polka Theatre and Page One Theatre Training course

A 10 week programme which will cover all the essentials for Devising work for Early Years theatre.

Dates - Wednesdays between 24 September - 3 December (no session 29 October)
Time - 7 - 9pm
Price - £264 (£220 + VAT). Book before 1 June and save £24*

This is an adults-only training course.

Polka Theatre have been a leading voice in the creation of work for Early Years audiences for over 45 years. We are excited to present a new 10 week evening course for adults exploring how to make theatre for an early years audience. Join Chloe Stephens from Page One Theatre and guest speakers from Polka’s Producing and Artistic teams to develop your skills in this practical and joyful course.

Drawing on Michael Chekhov's imaginative approach to theatre making, Chloe will share ways to engage with audiences in an immediate and genuine way. You will discover techniques for devising for Early Years and be given the time to develop short pieces of performance. We will share these with a group of children at the end of the course on Monday 8th December.

This course is perfect for any artists looking to expand their knowledge of devising work, of Early Years theatre and its crucial place in the theatre ecology and for artists who are passionate about increasing access to theatre for the very youngest audiences. It is available to artists at any stage of their career.

In an open-hearted and playful exchange you will

  • Develop collaborative skills in making theatre for young audiences
  • Explore the unique ways that Early Years theatre is developed and designed
  • Experience performing to an audience of young children
  • Receive feedback and advice
  • Become part of a network of creatives interested in theatre for young audiences

About Page One Theatre Company

Page One Theatre are a disabled-led company who create visual theatre for young audiences. We believe that children should be offered inspirational theatrical experiences. We are passionate about inspiring, challenging and feeding the imaginations of children (and their grown ups).

Our work for early years is highly visual, combining movement and object puppetry. In our work for ages 5+ this style continues and extends to include narrative through vibrant, original stories.

We offer a programme of education workshops in primary schools and participation projects in higher education institutions, sharing our practice and encouraging debate around the making of work for and with young audiences.
