Polka Theatre Covid 19 Statement

March 17, 2020

A statement from the team at Polka:

Theatre will always endure, because people – children – need stories, imagination and creativity in their lives. In light of the unprecedented challenge facing us, our industry and our communities, Polka will do everything it can to play its part in keeping that spirit alive.

This is an incredibly difficult time for our team, and our colleagues and friends across the theatre industry. We send our love, respect and support to them. Although Polka’s own building is temporarily closed for redevelopment, the impact of this shut down will be felt across all of our community, schools and outreach programmes. We are working to do whatever we can to do to support the groups we work with. We are also trying to minimise the impact on the finances and timeline of our current redevelopment project, continuing vital fundraising for our final target with the intention of reopening later this year as planned.

Due to the temporary closure of the New Wimbledon Theatre (where our current temporary office is based) as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, the Polka team will be working remotely with immediate effect and until further notice. We will aim to keep all our operations going as effectively as we can during this period, but ask for your patience as we endeavour to continue in difficult circumstances.
