Half Term Baking!
October 19, 2018
Run! Run! As fast as you can…to the shops, and make your own Gingerbread Man!
We are very excited about The Gingerbread Man coming to Polka this half term. To celebrate we’ve been baking (and eating!) lots and lots of gingerbread, and now you can too!
What you will need:
- 300 g plain flour
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 125 g unsalted butter
- 100 g soft light brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons golden syrup
- A person-shaped cutter
- Lots of icing and edible decorations (sprinkles, sweets, glitter)
- A grown up to help you
Preheat the oven to 180ºC and line two baking sheets with baking paper.
In a large bowl combine the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Melt the butter, sugar and golden syrup in a pan over a low heat and stir until the sugar dissolves into a nice smooth goo.
Add your sugary buttery goo to the dry ingredients and stir until it forms a stiff dough.
Split the dough in half and roll it out flat – it should be about 5mm thick.
Use the cutter to cut out your people, leaving a 2cm gap between each.
Carefully place onto the baking sheets and bake the gingerbread in the oven for about 12 minutes, or until lightly golden.
Leave to cool on the sheet for a few minutes then move to a wire rack.
Once cool, ice the gingerbread, decorate, and enjoy!
The Gingerbread Man plays at Polka Wed 24 – Sun 28 Oct.
